U.S SUSPENDS “DROP BOX” VISA RENEWAL FOR NIGERIANS INDEFINITELY

Visa applications will no longer be accepted by DHL in NigeriaAs of today, May 14, 2019, the U.S Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria have suspended the drop box visa renewal program that allows certain non-immigrant applicants to renew their visas without an in-person interview. (See notice here).

Prior to this news, Nigerian citizens could apply to renew their visas online and have that visa renewal be approved without an in-person interview with a U.S embassy consulate. To qualify for an interview waiver, the applicant must be applying to renew a visa in the same classification as the prior visa they had. Applicants must submit their application at the post of their normal residence.

This suspension does not apply retroactively; applications from those who used the program before the effective date of this suspension should not be affected and should be processed normally. However, moving forward, all applicants (new and renewals) must appear in person for an interview in order to be granted a U.S visa.
